Michael J. Kohl

Michael J. Kohl received his Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting from the University of Florida in 1987. He then went on to receive his Juris Doctor degree in 1991, also at the University of Florida. While attending the University of Florida College of Law, he was a Teaching Fellow and interned for the State Attorney's Office in the Eighth Judicial Circuit of the State of Florida. He was also a member of the Attorney General Staff for the University of Florida Student Honor Court. Mr Kohl is a member of the prestigious Million Dollar Advocates Forum.

Mr. Kohl was employed as a law clerk at numerous firms, including Stripling, McMichael & Stripling, PA in Gainesville. He also has experience with a publisher, where he acquired superior proofreading and editing skills. Mr. Kohl began working with Beltz & Ruth in 1992. Beltz and Ruth has championed the rights of victims of nursing home abuse for over two decades and Mr. Kohl now leads the firm in the areas of medical malpractice and nursing home abuse and neglect.

He believes that Beltz and Ruth has a unique structure that includes experienced, intelligent managers and a procedural framework that allows a succesful practice of law. The availability of legal and financial resources, as well as the size of the firm, make Beltz & Ruth a highly reputable firm.

To Mr. Kohl, personal injury law is very important because it can actually make a difference in a victim's life. Mr. Kohl is involved in multiple arbitrations every year. He has handled trials as lead attorney at Beltz and Ruth and has assisted colleagues with numerous cases tried by the firm during his 17 years. He has a vast amount of medical knowledge, including knowledge of medical devices and drugs. One of his most recognized verdicts involved a resident of a nursing home who had been attacked by fire ants. As a result of Mr. Kohl's perseverance, she was awarded $1.2 Million. More recently, in 2009, a Mr. Kohl had the priviledge of representing a client who was subjected to assisted living facility abuse and neglect resulting in his death. A jury awarded over $4.5 million due to his wrongful death.

Mr. Kohl is a member of the Florida Bar Association and the Minnesota State Bar Association. He is admitted to practice before all Florida and Minnesota state courts and the Federal Middle District Court of Florida and the Federal Southern District Court of Florida.

A talented billiards player, Mr. Kohl enjoys competing in billiards tournaments. He also owns Minature Dachsunds and enjoys fishing in his spare time.
