Crash Shuts Down I-275

by Administrator 9. July 2010 07:36

A stretch of Interstate 275 was closed Tuesday afternoon following a car accident near downtown.

According to officials with the Florida Highway Patrol, the accident happened shortly after 2:00 p.m. near mile marker 46. Police say the crash blocked the left lane of the interstate. Police say a pickup truck was traveling south on I-275 in the left lane when the driver lost control of the vehicle and crashed into a barricade.

A tow truck was called to haul away the pickup truck. Emergency response crews worked to clean diesel fuel off the roadway. Officials were unsure when the lanes would reopen.

Tampa Fire Rescue responded to the scene of the crash, the driver was treated and released at the scene.

Driving in Snow and Ice

by Administrator 12. February 2010 02:48

As record low temperatures and snow build up in the south, it is important to be prepared for driving in adverse winter weather. As you prepare for a weekend getaway or vacation this month, remember that many areas are still receiving inches of snow and ice that can make driving dangerous.

All drivers should approach potentially icy roads with caution. Drive slowly, leaving three times as much room between you and other drivers as you normally would. If your car begins to skid, do not pump your brakes as this can cause your vehicle to spin out of control. Instead, steadily apply the brakes while turning your steering wheel so that you tires are pointed in the direction in which your rear wheels are sliding. This will help you to regain control of the car more quickly.

Florida Woman Awarded $65 Million for Car Crash Injuries

by Administrator 26. March 2009 06:03

A 21-year-old Florida woman was recently awarded $65 million by a jury for injuries she sustained in a traffic accident 2 years ago.

Kendra Lymon, who was 19 at the time of the accident, suffered severe injuries after being T-boned by an 18-wheeler while driving through an intersection. The accident left her comatose in the hospital for months, and she continues to receive physical, speech, and occupational therapy.

The jury's verdict held truck driver Robert Bohn and trucking company Bynum Transport, Inc. fully responsible for causing Lymon's injuries. According to testimony, Bohn made a careless turn through the intersection and struck Lymon's car on the driver's side. Lymon's lawsuit also claimed that Bynum Transport failed to monitor Bohn's hours and enforce trucking regulations, allowing driver fatigue to play a role in the accident.
