A 17-year-old Plant City teenager was killed Sunday night while riding as a passenger in a 1990 Nissan 300ZX driven by his 19-year-old friend.

The crash occurred around 11:20 p.m. in the westbound lanes of Interstate 4 about a mile east of McIntosh road.  The 19-year-old driver attempted to overtake another car, but swerved out of control and spun off the road, taking the other vehicle with him. The 63-year-old driver of the other car was transported to Bradenton Regional Hospital with critical injuries, while the 19-year-old was also seriously injured and taken to Tampa General Hospital.

The 17-year-old was thrown through the windshield and pronounced dead at the scene.  Neither teen was wearing a seatbelt. Police are still investigating whether or not drugs or alcohol were involved in the accident.
