A man died in a Tampa car accident Monday when he clipped another vehicle while attempting to change lanes at a high rate of speed, police say.

According to officials with the St. Petersburg Police Department, 24 year-old Joshua Klessig was traveling south on Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Street shortly before midnight Monday at a high rate of speed. Police say Klessig passed several cars in the 8300 block, possibly driving into northbound lanes. As Klessig was trying to pass a 2004 Dodge minivan, driven by 26 year-old Danny Harnage, when the front of his 1998 Jeep Cherokee clipped the rear of the Dodge, police say.

The force of the impact caused both vehicles to spin out. Klessig's Jeep struck a concrete light pole, police say.

Klessig was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash.

Our thoughts and prayers go out to the victim's family and friends.
