A man was injured after a driver crashed into the back of a construction truck Thursday morning.

According to officials with the Tampa Police Department, a paving crew was working on the Dale Mabry overpass above Hillsborough Avenue shortly after 1:30 a.m. Thursday when the accident occurred. Troopers say the driver of the car that struck the truck may have fallen asleep and was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash.

The driver, who's identity has not been released, was transported to an area hospital with serious injuries. A worker on the back of the truck was slightly injured but refused treatment at the scene.

The driver is facing a charge of careless driving and failure to wear a safety belt.
